First Impressions: Gudrun Ebeling Debuts at the Contemporary Art Fair Luzern 2025

Every face tells a story. For portrait artist Gudrun Ebeling, that story goes deeper than surface features—it is about capturing the essence of a person, the emotions, experiences, and individuality that shine through expression. This October, visitors to the Contemporary Art Fair Luzern 2025 will be the first to see her work exhibited publicly.
Although this is her debut exhibition, Ebeling’s artistic journey has been many years in the making. She painted her first portrait at 14, inspired by the Renaissance masters and encouraged by a teacher who recognized her gift. Later, her time in theatre costume design sharpened her eye for transformation and identity, teaching her how much a face can reveal.Every face tells a story. Over the years, she refined her skills in studies and workshops across Europe, working with Gustav Koletscka, Paolo Campa, Clio Newton, and most recently under the mentorship of Dirk Dzimirsky. The result is a style rooted in realism, but guided by empathy and emotional depth.
Her background in healthcare and therapy also resonates in her art. Having accompanied people in their most vulnerable moments, Ebeling brings a unique attentiveness to nuance—capturing not just how a person looks, but who they are.
At Luzern 2025, she will present a selection of new portraits that embody this vision: finely crafted works that invite viewers into quiet, personal encounters—art that lingers long after the fair.
