Vera Schumacher based in Hannover, will return to the Contemporary Art Fair Luzern 2025 with works that unite photography and painting. Her method—printing on canvas and enhancing with acrylic and varnish—places her art between two practices and opens new ways of seeing.

Schumacher’s background reflects a diverse cultural path. Born in Russia, she studied journalism at Voronezh State University before living for twelve years in South Africa. In 2016, she moved to Germany, where she is currently based. These experiences shape her artistic perspective and inform the themes she explores in her work.
Her artistic focus developed further during the coronavirus pandemic. She completed a year-long program in photography at the Moscow School of Photoart and took part in master classes with Magnum Photos in Paris. This period of study provided the foundation for the unique method she has since established.
Visitors to Luzern Art Fair 2025 will have the opportunity to see this fusion of photography and painting first-hand. Schumacher’s work highlights the possibilities that emerge when artistic boundaries are approached with curiosity and redefined through practice.
