David Drain

 

David Drain is a Scottish abstract painter based in southern Germany, close to the Swiss border and the cultural hub of Basel. Since beginning his second career as a full-time visual artist in 2016, he has developed a distinctive abstract practice characterised by materiality and a refined visual language.

​

His paintings explore the relationship between form, texture, line and colour. Balancing intention with intuition, his work combines structure and spontaneity, often creating compositions that appear light and ethereal while retaining a strong compositional presence.  

 

What initially feels intuitive and direct gradually reveals layers of complexity, nuance and quiet intensity, offering a space for reflection, emotional connection and possibility.
